Dot matrix chart

A dot matrix chart is a grid of dots used to represent numbers or values, each coloured to represent a particular category and grouped in a matrix. It gives a quick overview of the distribution and proportions of each category in a dataset.

Tips for use and when NOT to use

When only one category is used in the dataset and all the dots are the same colour, a dot matrix chart can show proportions. Make sure you choose an appropriate dot size and use colour for emphasis. Don't use with very large datasets or when you need to show precise numerical values.

Use case / Examples
