Dot plot strip

Alternative name:

Dot chart; strip plot

A variant of a dot plot where data points are jittered (slightly offset) to avoid overlap and to show the density of values more clearly. Often, several strip plots are shown side by side to compare how the values are spread out across different groups.

Tips for use and when NOT to use

Limit the number of groups and use clear labels and colours to differentiate between them. Don't use if distributions are very similar or if there are too many groups to compare effectively.

Use case / Examples

To compare the distribution of employee engagement scores for two different teams within a company.

Question example:

How confident are you, on a scale of 1 to 10, in your company's ability to adapt to AI, blockchain and quantum computing?
