Matrix diagram

Alternative name:

Corellogram; correlation matrix

This is a grid that shows the relationships between items in rows and columns. At each intersection a relationship is either absent or present. The chart then gives information about the relationship, such as its strength.

Tips for use and when NOT to use

Use clear symbols and/or colours to represent the types of relationships, and consider a colour scale to indicate relationship strength. Don't use if you have a large number of items or relationships, because the diagram can become cluttered and difficult to interpret.

Use case / Examples

1. To map the relationships between different sustainability initiatives and the risks they aim to address.
2. To map the relationships between different sustainability initiatives and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
