This is a chart that shows how items move or flow between different categories, where the width of each band represents the number of items in each category. You can also use it to compare across time.

Tips for use and when NOT to use

Use colour and the width of the bands to represent the size of the flows. Show the flows horizontally if you want to illustrate change over time. Don't use if the flows between your categories are complex or you have a lot of categories.
