Pie chart

Alternative name:

Circle chart

This is a circular chart that's divided into slices to illustrate numerical proportions.

Tips for use and when NOT to use

To keep it clear and easy to read, limit the number of categories — ideally, no more than six. Don't use if you want to show small differences in proportions (in which case a donut chart might be better). Don't use if you're comparing a lot of categories; a stacked bar might be more appropriate here.

Use case / Examples

To show the proportion of respondents who agree, disagree or are neutral on a particular policy issue.

Question example:

What percentage of your company's workforce is made up of each generation (baby boomers, gen X, millennials, gen Z)?
