Sunburst chart
Sunburst chart, Ring chart, Multi-level pie chart, Belt chart, Radial treemap
A circular hierarchical chart that uses concentric rings to represent levels in a hierarchy, with each ring divided into segments representing sub-categories, and the size of each segment is sized proportionally(by value) or divided evenly.
Limit the number of hierarchical levels to 3-4 for optimal readability. Use a clear and distinct color scheme to differentiate between levels and categories. Ensure that each segment is clearly labeled with its name and value for clarity. If possible, incorporate interactive features to allow users to drill down into specific categories or levels for more detailed analysis. Avoid using a sunburst chart if the data does not have a clear hierarchical structure, if there are too many categories within each level, or if the primary goal is to compare values between levels.
Visualize the breakdown of a company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) spending across different categories (e.g., environmental, social, governance) and subcategories.
Visualize your company's organizational structure, showing the headcount and budget allocation for each department and sub-department.
